Balmoral Nippers | About the program

Balmoral Nippers is an independent program (not affiliated with any Surf Life Saving Clubs) run by volunteers on behalf of Balmoral Beach Club Events Pty Ltd for families to enjoy the beach and learn the basics of surf life-saving. It’s a Summer program running on Sunday mornings on Balmoral Beach.

The program is for children aged 4 to 12. Groups are broken down by age and gender, with each group having an age manager who runs the events with the help of parents. There are four events at each Nippers session, each one lasting about 15 minutes.

They are run, flags (sprint and dive for batons in the sand), swim and paddle (on boards).

Children aged 4 are limited to activities on the sand and some carefully supervised light paddling in the pool section of Balmoral Beach (North end, here).

Get involved

Strong emphasis is placed on child safety and family participation, and for this reason all parents registering their children for the program become a ‘Blue Rashie’, participating closely with the children and getting into the water when the children do, as well as helping with set-up and pack away. This family engagement is what makes Balmoral Nippers one of the best and safest programs in the country. Please see the FAQs for more information.

Championships

We also run a program called ‘Championships‘ for more competitive kids aged 6-12. This takes place each week immediately after Nippers for about an hour, and the event rotates each week (see timetable for details). Points are assigned with prizes awarded for the best competitor. Balmoral Nippers is a program run by volunteers on behalf of Balmoral Beach Club Events Pty Ltd for families to enjoy the beach and learn the basics of surf lifesaving. It’s a Summer program running on Sunday mornings at Balmoral Beach. As a valued sponsor of the Balmoral Nippers your support will help us provide training, personal development and lifesaving equipment for our volunteers and Nippers along with the opportunity to associate your business with any one of our additional programs and events.

Sponsorship funding is directed according to your preference toward the following services:

· Provision of life saving equipment
· Provision of basic and advanced training for age managers and parent volunteers
· Water and beach safety education programs for children and families
· Provision of professional life savers and first aid services
· Maintenance of lifesaving equipment including rescue boards, nipper boards, first aid equipment, rescue tubes & much more.
